This is an beginner to intermediate trail which starts at the north end of the Kuliouou subdivision. From Kalanianole Hwy. turn onto Kuliouou Road and head into the valley. Go around a park and just before the road ends take a right onto Kalaau Road. The trail gradually works up to a ridge. The trail then follows the ridge to the top of the Koolau summit where you can get some excellent views. Hiking time is 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Estimated burn: 860 calories There is one geocache located on the trail: Sound of the Knee (Kuliouou means this in Hawaiian). (N 21 19.288 W 157 43.385). |
